Experience

Eng. Tony Kalupahana is the founder of EnerSense and its Chief Executive Officer, who is a pioneer in the Sri Lankan small hydro power industry. In addition to serving at EnerSense, he serves the Boards of Redco International Co. Ltd, Renewable Energy Company Limited (REDCO), Siri Oya Hydro Power Company Ltd and Mount Valley Hydro Power Company Ltd.

Eng. Kalupahana graduated from the University of Peradeniya in Mechanical Engineering and obtained his Master of Business Administration degree from the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM), University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

He has over 25 years of industrial experience in Asia (India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka) and Africa (Rwanda, Burundi, Chad, Mali & Ivory Coast) as a consultant or undertaken as Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor with international organizations such as the World Bank, United Nationals Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Practical Action, Gram Vikas and Asian Development Bank (ADB). Tony is accredited by the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority as a hydropower consultant, and he works as the Mini-Grid Implementation Advisor for the World Bank funded National Electrification Project: off grid component for Myanmar since 2016. Apart from project design, implementation and consultancy scope, he has designed, manufactured and installed over 50 small hydro turbines and Electronic Governors (IGC) in the World Bank funded Energy Services Delivery (ESD) and Renewable Energy for Rural Economic Development (RERED) projects in Sri Lanka.
